Fauna

Studies of dry forest fauna are not as comprehensive as for flora.
It is known, however, that at least 33 butterfly species are specific to dry forest and related formations.

Studies have revealed endemic species such as a moth Lysimelia littoralis, a ladybird Stethorus proximus and a gecko Bayavia exsuccida.

Studies are being carried out especially on invertebrate fauna, of which little is known in NC

Dry forests are home to a diversified fauna of insects, molluscs, reptiles and birds. Recent Quaternary fossils indicate of massive extinction of birds and reptiles, a major consequence of environment regression.
